The developers of Home Assistant have united in an association
On April 20, 2024, the Nabu Casa team announced the establishment of the non-profit organization " Open Home Foundation" . The purpose of which is to popularize the philosophy of free construction of smart homes, which goes against the idea of commercial use of IoT solutions.
The association has already been joined by projects such as Z-Wave JS , WLED , Rhasspy, ESPHome , and Zigbee2MQTT . In addition, the foundation has more than 240 industry developments.
Open Home Foundation is registered in Switzerland. The reason for choosing the country as the registrar was Swiss pedantry in jurisprudence.
"Our founding board decided to locate the Open Home Foundation in Switzerland because of the country's strict adherence to the rule of law, long history of supporting privacy and democracy, and strong political independence," the association's official website states.
The association's website also reports that the Home Assistant home automation system has become the property of the Open Home Foundation.
The founding council included the following board members:
- Paulus Schützen - President of the association
- Guy Xi - Secretary
- Pascal Visely - financier
- Jay Nick Coston
